The All-New California

The camper van, reimagined: the all-new California

How do you even start trying to improve the world’s most successful camper van? You take the best things about it and add some innovative concepts. A new platform, a new interior concept, new functions: the all-new California is both a reliable companion through day-to-day life, as well as a fully-fledged camper van for almost any adventure imaginable.

3-zone concept with summer kitchen

The all-new California comes with 2 sliding doors as standard – making it even easier for the vehicle to integrate itself into your everyday life and camping adventures. The sliding door on the passenger side provides convenient access in and out of the vehicle. The additional sliding door on the driver side – combined with the brand-new kitchenette design and the fold-out exterior table  – enables you to experience outdoor cooking and dining in a variety of ways. For instance, the kitchenette, which includes a sink, sliding induction hob, gas hob and fridge, can be accessed from outside and protected from the sun and rain thanks to an optional awning. This second point of access significantly increases the available space, virtually transforming the all-new California into a three-room flat.

Highly flexible seating

The spacious way to camp: installed instead of a manual hand brake, the electronic parking brake enables a passage to be created between the driver and front passenger seats (both of which can be rotated and are height-adjustable), leading to the all-new California’s passenger compartment. There is plenty of space there behind the driver seat – enough for a PortaPotti, for instance. The two individual seats in the passenger compartment can be easily removed or adjusted– to free up more space for long objects like a surfboard, for example. They also offer more flexibility and a greater level of comfort thanks to the bed function and built-in drawers.

Smart camping

Digital features, innovative mobile online services at a high standard and intelligent assist systems: the new California is equipped with a host of practical features as standard. These include the option to display and operate camper van functions, control the air conditioning in the passenger compartment, heat the interior using the auxiliary air heater, control the background lighting (all-round on the roof frame) and much more using not one but three touch points: the California on Tour app, a new in-car app and a camper control unit in the C-pillar with a 12.7 cm (5”) portrait-format touch display.
